Most of today's spammers use forged email addresses when sending email. Spammers can 'spoof' or steal an email address and use it to send hundreds, thousands or even millions of emails illicitly.
An email may say that it is from support@extravision.com but how do you know it really is ? The process of checking the sender is called email authentication
Although the open standard which is known as Sender Policy Framework (SPF) was first developed in 2003 it is only
recently that ISP's have begun to take any notice of them. For the first time Sender Policy Framework (SPF) email authentication checks are now on the top ten list of content
triggers for different ISPs such as google and AOL. As a result extravision has implemented the Sender Policy Framework to all hosted client domains to improve email deliverability.
This standard is almost identical to the policy adopted by Microsoft called SenderID
More information about SPF can be found at www.openspf.org
The Microsoft equivalent, SenderID can be found here
